Each of my shawl clasps/pins is unique.  But all start with a mixture of glass powder and binders to form a clay.  After mixing the ingredients, I then form the basic shape of each pin.  Once dried, the clasp is sanded, sculpted, carved, drilled with a design, and then fired in a kiln to burn away the binders.  The resulting clasp is pure glass.  None of the details made in the clay prior to firing are lost, but rather are enhanced when the binder is gone.

The base color of the shawl pin at left is aquamarine blue.  The carvings contain various shades of blue glass.

This shawl pin measures approximately 2 inches in diameter.
